Delta Widens Doors Of Partnership To Patriotic Citizens, Groups

  • As Coalition Of Academics Back Oborevwori

BY PATRICK MGBODO

THE Delta State Government has continued to foster meaningful partnerships with individuals and groups committed to the vision and enduring legacy of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

This was expressed, today, when members of the Coalition of Academics for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, in Asaba.

Addressing the group, Mr. Aniagwu commended them for their enduring faith in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori even before the 2023 elections and for deploying their intellectual acumen in engaging with the MORE Agenda.

‘’Before now, many underrated him (Governor), but today, he has not only proved them wrong in that direction, he has proven that truly you do not judge a book by its cover’’

‘’I am very pleased with the fact that you are going to carry out research into some of our policy priorities, specifically the four thematic areas that constitute the MORE Agenda.

‘’How much meaningful development we are bringing to the people, how much we are creating opportunities across board, how much we are ensuring that we have realistic reforms and the extent to which we have been able to bring peace and security in the everyday life of the people.

‘’Be assured that as a Ministry, we will collaborate with you because it is in our own enlightened self-interest that we do so. Again, our joy is that you are not one of those individuals who ‘’are looking for what to eat.’’

‘’Going forward, we would like to have frequent conversations to advance the patriotic stance you have taken and also assist those of us who are privileged to serve in the government so that at the end of the day, history will be kind to us.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Coalition of Academics for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Prof Lawrence Omo-Aghoja said they are a group of progressive academics who have come together to support Governor Oborevwori.

‘’Certainly, it would be expected that there is a strong synergy between your office and the Coalition to regularly generate exact, incontrovertible and evidence-based facts, data and policy agenda with which we shall espouse and showcase the good governance our amiable governor has entrenched and continues to drive in Delta State.

‘’It is trite and without doubt too that the governor’s indicators of performance and deliverables that are self-evident and dotting every nook and cranny of the state’s milieu are a testament to his capacious capacity to deliver,’’ he said.  Also attending the meeting were the Functioning Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Mrs. Stella Macaulay, directors, and other senior government officials.
