THE Delta State Commissioner of Housing, Mr. Godknows Angele, says that the state government will take action in addressing the issue of high rent in the state
Angele noted that the ministry would collaborate with the State House of Assembly to introduce legislation aimed at regulating rent charged by housing agents. These fees, including “agency fees” and “total package” charges, have significantly increased the financial burden on rent seekers, majority of whom are civil servants
The commissioner, a former two-time chairman of Burutu local government, who said that he has already engaged with the executives of the agents’ association within the state to discuss the concerns and acknowledged the complaints from civil servants and other residents, which , according to him has reached the attention of State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The state government is also committed to providing affordable housing scheme. Plans are underway to develop housing projects across the state for civil servants and the public. In addition to these housing initiatives, the government is taking further steps to control the excessive increase in house rent
He urged Deltans to support the M.O.R.E Agenda of the state Governor which, according to him has been so effective towards the development of the state, saying that there are numerous ongoing housing projects for the benefits of Deltans.
Meanwhile the commissioner has received an award of excellent leadership from a group known as Skylink Charity Foundation in partnership with Newsday Express Magazine and TV
The representatives of both groups presented the award
Responding the commissioner thanked God Almighty for the award and encourages everyone in leadership to make good use of their office to affects lives positively.
