DELTA State is charting a bold path toward a technology-driven economy as it prepares to host Delta Tech Week 2025, a five-day innovation showcase aimed at empowering young tech talents, creating jobs, and accelerating the state’s digital transformation agenda.
The initiative was unveiled at a press briefing in Asaba by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Daniel Odigie, who described Delta Tech Week as a strategic step toward positioning the state as a major player in Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem. “We have many innovators, tech enthusiasts, and developers who are not yet seen or noticed,” Hon. Odigie said. “This event is designed to showcase their brilliance and highlight how excellent Delta State can be in the tech space.”
The event scheduled to hold from December 1, 2025, will feature a packed lineup of activities, including hackathons, exhibitions, summits, a job fair, and the grand finale, a developers’ festival (DevFest) hosted by the Google Developers Group (GDG) Asaba.
According to him, the programme has the full support of the Delta State Government and will be executed in partnership with private sector leaders and ecosystem partners.
Speaking at the press briefing, the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Rocky Ighohota, explained that the event will provide a vital platform for local innovators to move “from talent to visibility.” “This event is an opportunity for them to showcase their talent,” he said. “Investors attending will be able to interact directly with participants, review their products, and identify the most promising ideas for support.”
Mr. Ighohota added that the three-day hackathon will unite young developers, entrepreneurs, and creative minds to design solutions addressing real challenges in Delta State. The top three teams will receive prizes, while investors will have the chance to evaluate and fund scalable projects.
Similarly, the Director of Science and Technology, Mrs. Nkechi Chukwurah, described the Delta Tech Experience as a vibrant technology fair, offering innovators exhibition booths to display prototypes and digital products to visitors and investors.
Founder and CEO of Wafi Hub, Mr. Paul Okoru, announced that the Delta Tech Ecosystem Summit and Awards, slated for December 3, will bring together about 2,000 entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts, and business leaders under the theme: “Reimagining Delta: A 100-Billion Economy Powered by Technology.”
