The Rector of Delta State polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri has named a Gigantic administrative building after the State Governor Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, in recognition of his commitment to education and human capital development.
The building, which was among major projects commissioned by the Governor, during the 2nd convocation ceremony of the institution, held at the Chief James Onanefe Ibori auditorium in the school, was a project funded by the Polytechnic through Internally Generated Revenue.
Speaking at the event, the Governor and visitor to the polytechnic, represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Nyerohvwo Tonukari, commended the Rector, the Governing Council and management staff for the great job they are doing in the institution.
While commending the Rector for the iconic building named after him, the Governor reiterated that his administration remains steadfast in its support for education.
He said, Technical and Vocational training was essential to the growth of any economy. Therefore, the vision of his administration is to position Delta State as leading in human capital development, particularly in the South South Region and beyond.
*””While congratulating the Graduands on their achievement, the Governor urged them to go forth and conquer, as he wished them well in their future endeavours.
In his address, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri thanked the Governor, for his love for education and unwavering commitment to sustainable development.
He noted that the commitment of Oborevwori to education development has made Delta State the ‘Boston Area’ of Africa.
He highlighted the numerous achievements of the institution within the period he assumed office as the Rector, noting that the institution has maintained a culture of academic excellence, integrity, moral uprightness, discipline, hard work and innovative strides.
He reiterated that since 2015, the Polytechnic has produced graduates who are excelling in their chosen careers.
The Rector also enumerated some of the projects done and funded through Internally Generated Revenue to include the Ultra Modern Administrative building, named Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Administrative building, construction of the School of Applied Sciences Complex, the invention of the fuel-less generator, installation of solar streetlights in some parts of the Polytechnic , equipping Mass Communication studio and the Office Technology Management workshop amongst others .
According to him, in 2023, they were able to secured 100% five-year full accreditation from NBTE for 30 academic programmes and one institutional accreditation .
While highlighting some areas where the Polytechnic needed help, Biri pleaded with the Governor to grant the management staff the permission to employ more staff to meet the NBTE requirements, since the institution has additional 23 academic programmes.
Conferment of distinguished fellowship was awarded to some prominent and worthy personalities, which included the Ovie of Oghara kingdom, HRM Noble Eshemitan; Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, HRM Obukohwo Monday; the Okobaro of Jeremi (Ughievwen) Kingdom, HRM Mathew Egbi; Chairman DESOPADEC , Hon John Nani and others.
The overall best graduating student from 2015 to 2024 , Okene Efemena, an ND student from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, with the OGPA of 3.86, received different awards including a scholarship. Also, an HND student, Uvwaoma Ucheoma from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, with OGPA of 3.85 received prize awards.
