Delta Police Arrest Kidnapper, Recover Gun Hidden In Bread

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and kidnapper found with a fabricated Beretta pistol concealed inside a loaf of bread, in what the Command described as another evidence of its intelligence-led policing efforts.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and issued yesterday in Asaba, the Command said the arrest was made by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during a routine stop-and-search operation at Koka Roundabout, Asaba, on November 6, 2025, at about 8:45 a.m. According to the police, the operatives intercepted a young man whose suspicious behaviour drew their attention. “In the course of the search, a fabricated Beretta pistol was discovered carefully concealed inside a loaf of bread,” the statement said.

The suspect, identified as Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, aged 24, of Ogbeowele Quarters, behind General Hospital, Asaba, was immediately arrested and taken into custody. The recovered weapon, police confirmed, has been secured as an exhibit.

“An investigation is ongoing to ascertain his possible connection with incidents of armed robbery and kidnapping within the Asaba metropolis and adjoining communities,” the statement added.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the RRS operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, describing the discovery as proof of the Command’s sustained intelligence-driven operations.

“The discovery is a clear indication that our proactive and intelligence-led policing strategy is yielding results. We remain resolute in our commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting criminal elements regardless of their tactics,” CP Olufemi stated.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and share credible information with the police, assuring that “all reports will be treated with utmost confidentiality.” The Commissioner further reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents across Delta State, promising that the Command will continue to intensify its operations against crime and criminality in the state.
