The Delta State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has disowned a planned protest allegedly being organized against the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Comrade Odiri Sagboje, and State Secretary, Comrade Michael Chukwuemeke, the Council stated that it was neither aware of nor involved in the purported demonstration scheduled to hold today, at the CAC office in Asaba.
According to the statement, the NYCN Delta leadership was alerted to a circulating letter titled “Notification of Planned Peaceful Protest Against the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)”, which claimed to have been issued by “concerned stakeholders and members of the NYCN.
”The Council, however, categorically dissociated itself from the move, clarifying that it had not convened, authorized, or endorsed any protest or public demonstration in the state or elsewhere in connection with the ongoing national leadership or legal matters involving the NYCN and CAC.
“Comrade Sagboje reiterated the state State NYCN’s commitment to peace, dialogue, and lawful engagement as the only legitimate means of resolving grievances, especially those currently before competent courts of law.
“While acknowledging the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful assembly, the Council is not a party to, nor supportive of, any activity capable of disrupting public peace or undermining government institutions,” the statement read in part.
The Council therefore urged youths across the state to disregard any protest invitations issued in its name and continue to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly.
The Council also called on the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to take note of its position and ensure that its name is not misused by unauthorized individuals or groups.
The Council reaffirmed its loyalty to the State Government and constituted authorities at both the state and federal levels, in the collective pursuit of peace, order, and youth advancement.
