The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Joseph Onyinye has defended the recent defection of key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders to the All Progressive Congress (APC), as a strategic move to secure democratic dividends for the state.
In a telephone interview, Onyinye expressed that the realignment was less about party loyalty and more about a collective resolve to attract federal projects and investment to the state.
“Our stakeholders have chosen to join the APC because it is the party currently in power at the centre. This shift will help fast-track improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other critical services for our people,” he said.
According to him, aligning with the ruling party would open up stronger avenues to access resources, especially in vital areas such as road construction, electricity, and youth empowerment initiatives.
“By working within the structures of the APC, we can ensure that our communities benefit directly from national programmes,” he added.
Onyinye further called for unity among the state’s political actors, urging both defectors and long-time APC members to set aside party differences and collaborate for the good of the state.
“What matters now is service to the people,” he affirmed. “Political labels should not stand in the way of progress.”
