The chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Augustine Ogedegbe, weekend, visited Urho-Abraka to commiserate with the family of slain kidnapped victim, late Mr. Marcus Samue Odafe
The Local Government chairman, who was received by community leaders, youth representatives and family members of the deceased expressed deep sorrow for the gruesome killing.
In his speech, the chairman said: “This tragic death is a painful loss, not just for his loved ones but the Urhoka-Abraka Community and the entire Local Government Area. No one deserve to die in such a painful and unjust manner.
“Marcus was a dedicated youth leader, and his absence will deeply felt.”
Speaking further, Chief Ogedegbe said: “I have listened to the concern of the family and other communities in Abraka about rising insecurity in the area. “I want to assure everyone that we are taking urgent steps with security agencies to address these issues. We are committed to making sure that such tragedy does not happen again.“We will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to justice and we will continue to strengthen community policing, intelligence gathering and security patrol.“
Justice, he added, will be pursued and our efforts to restore peace and safety in Abraka and all of Ethiope East will not stop. We will honor Marcus’s memory by working for a safety, united and peaceful Ethiope East.”
Earlier in his welcome speech, the spokesperson of the family, Hon. William Tubi, lamented that the residents of the community could no longer go to farm owing to fear of kidnapping. According to him “Our mothers could no longer go to farm due to fear of being kidnapped. This situation has affected every household. People now live in fear. He called on the government to take urgent step to restore peace in the area.
