Court Jails Man 12 Months For Stealing Pumping Machine

A Delta State Magistrate Court, Asaba, has sentenced one Musa to 12 months imprisonment for stealing a Sumo (pumping machine) and cable wire valued at ₦180,000.

He was found guilty on the one-count charge preferred against him.

The count one in the charge sheet, stated that: “You Musa, male, wit stealing a Sumo and cable wire valued at ₦180,000, property of Rev. Father Peter Mokwunye, the Priest in charge of St. Patrick College, Asaba, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 090 of the Criminal Law Cap of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

According to the witness, the defendant was caught by vigilantes inside the premises with the Sumo and cable wire and was taken to the nominal complainant for confirmation, then arrested by the police. The alleged properties were recovered from him. The defendant was found guilty on the one count charge preferred against him for stealing. Due to the defendant’s plea for leniency, he was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment.
