THE executive members of Agbor Community Union (ACU), led by its President- General, Prof. Onyemaechi Ugboh, have paid a courtesy visit to the office of the member representing Ika Ethnic Nationality on the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Mrs. Cordelia Anyangwu.
During the visit, Prof. Ugboh presented series of appeals to Anyangwu, highlighting critical needs of the Agbor community, including the renovation of the Agbor Community Hall, purchase of a bus for ACU executive and provision of bursary awards to Agbor students to ease their academic burdens
The delegation also appealed for improved infrastructure in oil-producing communities in Agbor Kingdom , emphasizing the need for developmental projects to enhance living standards. In her response, Mrs. Anyangwu expressed gratitude for the visit and assured the ACU executive that their demands would be given due consideration. She highlighted some of the efforts her office had already undertaken, including the provision of furniture to schools, installation of solar-powered streetlights, and enrollment of youths in skill acquisition programs aimed at reducing unemployment.
Mrs. Anyangwu also addressed the growing insecurity in Ika land, particularly the challenges faced by farmers who are unable to access their farms due to fear of attacks by marauding herdsmen and kidnappers. She stressed the need for collective efforts to tackle insecurity, urging community leaders and security agencies to work together to restore peace to enable farmers to return to their means livelihoods.
“We appreciate Mrs. Anyangwu’s receptiveness to our appeals. We believe that with her support, Agbor will witness more progress,” Prof. Ugboh stated after the meeting.
