THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge has charged sons and daughters of Asaba at home and in the diaspora to show greater commitment to the development of their community on the bank of the majestic River Niger.
The Monarch gave the charge when an illustrious son of Asaba, Mr. Emmanuel Odiaka, paid him a courtesy visit.
The traditional ruler noted that no one could champion development in any community other than the indigenes themselves, stressing that government’s intervention was secondary and usually not forthcoming due to competing demands.
Asagba Prof Azinge, who, during the groundbreaking of the Asagba of Asaba Permanent Palace Building, singled out Mr. Emma Odiaka for commendation, said it was important for sons and daughters of the land to always think home and show concern about the development of their community.
He thanked Mr. Odiaka for single-handedly fencing the expansive Permanent Palace ground, commencing work on the Palace gate, donating over N120 million to the Palace Building project and currently building offices behind the Ogwa Ukwu Ahaba. The Asagba described the unassuming young man as a pride of the Asaba community with incomparable humility and hunger for community service, saying that with people like him Asaba was comfortably on the path to greatness. In an interview with newsmen after the visit, Mr. Odiaka thanked the Asagba for acknowledging and appreciating his modest contributions to community development, which he said were inspired by the need to bring charity back home, pull people along and do things the appropriate way so that others could also be inspired to contribute to the greater good of the community.
He said Asaba people should count themselves lucky to have Asagba Prof Azinge on the throne at this time in history, describing him as a vibrant Professor and legal luminary with the knowledge of what to do at every given time.
Mr Odiaka noted that the Asagba believed in carrying everyone along in promoting the city of Asaba, and he was hopeful that he would continue in that direction so that the people could continue to be energized and inspired to support the exercise of his sovereign power.
