ASUU UNIDEL Branch Gets New Leadership

THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Delta (UNIDEL) Branch, has elected Dr. Amaechi Ehimatie as its Chairman.

Declaring the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Comrade Nwabuoku Azani, disclosed that Dr. Ehimatie was returned unopposed with 199 votes affirmation, while Dr. Hillary Moseri, also unopposed, was elected Vice Chairman.

The position of the Secretary- Gen­eral was keenly contested, as Dr. Justice Oduma defeated Dr. Charles Agha hav­ing polled 110 votes against 96 votes.

The position of Financial Secretary was won by Dr. John Okoh, while Dr. Mrs lfeoma Egwu won the position of Treasurer.

The representative of ASUU Presi­dent, Prof. Dennis Aribodor, Zonal Co-ordinator of ASUU, Owerri Zone, while inaugurating the elected of­ficers, congratulated them on their victories and charged them to per­form creditably. He noted that there would be bye elections for the seats that were not contested for.

In an interview with our correspon­dent, Dr. Ehimatie, who was visibly elated, said he was humbled by the trust reposed in him by his fellow academics and pledged to work tire­lessly to address their concerns and promote the welfare of all members. He solicited for their prayers and cooperation and appealed to them to join him in celebrating the diver­sity and excellence of the university community.

“As a matter of fact, l promise not to let my people down. l will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the principle of our Union is maintained and the interest of my members would be above my personal interest “

He emphasized that the Union would not be confrontational but engage the University Management and the government in dialogue to address pressing issues.

He commended his predecessor, Comrade Desmond Ekokotu for his meritorious service and dedication while assuring all members of his desire to build a stronger and more vibrant academic community that would benefit every member, stu­dents and the society at large.
