THE management of Asaba Specialist Hospital (ASH), Delta State, has announced plans to conduct a mass burial for unclaimed corpses currently in its mortuary.
In three separate public notices published in The Pointer Newspaper, the most recent dated July 21, 2025, the hospital called on members of the public who may have deposited corpses at the facility, or who have information regarding any unclaimed bodies, to visit the hospital mortuary for identification and collection.
For clarity, the hospital defined an “unclaimed corpse” as anybody kept in the mortuary for more than six months without being checked on by the relatives of the deceased.
The notices signed by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Peace Ighosewe, stated that the final deadline for the identification and collection of unclaimed corpses expires on Friday, July 25, 2025.
After this date, it will proceed with the mass burial without further public notice.
