Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has continued to exemplify compassionate and purposeful leadership, showing empathy for civil servants and inspiring the state workforce towards greater commitment and improved service delivery.
To this end, the governor approved transport grants for officers attending the seven-weekend senior management training; the first of its kind in over two decades since the course commenced in the state.
The announcement by the Head of Service, Dr (Mrs) Mininim Oseji, at the opening ceremony of the 21st edition of the management course in Asaba, sparked intense excitement among the officers who heaped praises on Governor Oborevwori.
‘’Permit me to express, on behalf of the Delta State Civil Service, my deep appreciation to His Excellency, for magnanimously approving, for the first time since the inception of the programme, transport grants for participants.
‘’By this singular gesture, His Excellency has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the manpower capacity development of the Delta State Public Service as encapsulated in his administration’s policy drive,’’ Dr Oseji said.
The Head of Service stressed the essence of the programme as a veritable tool needed to drive the much-desired change and repositioning of the civil service, even as she reminded the participants that the training is significant in their career progression to the directorate cadre.
‘’I therefore encourage you to make judicious use of this rare opportunity offered by the government to transform this huge investment into the improvement of quality service delivery for the entire civil service and the good people of Delta State’’ she said.
She commended the synergy between the state government and the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), adding that the course is expected to improve the overall conduct of participants in the discharge of their duties.
Earlier, the Director-General of ASCON, Mrs Funke Adepoju, represented by the Director of Studies and Head of Public Administration Department (ASCON), Dr Aiyeola Abiola, expressed profound gratitude to the Delta State Government for its longstanding partnership with the college for accelerated development.
Under Governor Oborevwori’s administration, the Delta State Civil Service has continued to evolve into a modern, professional and result-oriented institution. His MORE Agenda has provided a framework for inclusive growth and innovation in governance’’ she said.
On behalf of the participants, Mr Anthony Iweze of the Office of the Delta State Accountant-General, thanked Governor Oborevwori for empowering civil servants and positioning them to compete with their colleagues in other states.
He also thanked the Head of Service for her innovative reforms in the civil service, just as he promised that they would justify the investment and confidence reposed in them by the Delta State Government.
The event was graced by top government functionaries, including the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, serving and retired permanent secretaries, among others.
