Anioma State Won’t Join Southeast —Nwaobi

BY CHIKA KWAMBA

THE member representing Aniocha North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, has called for the proposed Anioma State to be located in the South-South geopolitical zone.

The lawmaker made this known during the Ine Festival held at Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area. He also highlighted the historical connection between the Issele-Uku Kingdom and the ancient Benin Kingdom. Hon. Nwaobi said, “Everyone from the Anioma nation desires an Anioma State, but things must be done the right way. The only hitch is that we don’t want to be pushed to the East. But in desiring an Anioma State, I have not seen any Anioma person who doesn’t yearn for it.

“If things were done sequentially and in the right way, for me, I am not a proponent of being pushed to the East across the Niger, but of an Anioma State that will remain in the South-South.

“Additionally, I know that we migrated from Benin to settle in this place, but regarding the Igbo aspect, I can’t lay claims to it, and I can’t put any argument to that. I am aware that we left Benin and settled here; that’s why our culture is very similar, even the language.

“Also, there are some things we share in common that show you that we are actually from the Benin Kingdom’’ the lawmaker said.

Recall that the creation of an Anioma State has been on the front burner and was recently rekindled by the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko.
