Aniocha North Lawmakers Defect To APC

THE Legislative Arm of Aniocha North Local Government has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the recent mass defection led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and other PDP stakeholders.

During a plenary session, the Majority Leader, Hon. Chinyere Nkabu moved the motion for the defection, which was seconded by the Deputy Leader, Hon. Uzoma Iweka.

The motion received unanimous support from all councilors present.

In the same session, the councillors unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu; Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; and the Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Hon. Emma Chinye, citing their outstanding performances and people-oriented policies.

Speaking in an interview, Hon. Nkabu explained that the defection was guided by loyalty to their political leaders who had earlier switched to the APC.

She assured constituents that the move was in their best interest, even though convincing some long-time PDP supporters might prove challenging. “Ultimately, this movement will benefit our people,” she said.

Echoing her sentiments, Hon. Uzoma Iweka noted that as long as Governor Oborevwori had moved to the APC, they felt it was only right to follow suit. He emphasised that the defection was official and that their constituents had also joined them in the transition.

Hon. Chukwuka Odu added that loyalty and faith in their leaders informed the decision. He expressed optimism that the move would bring benefits to grassroots communities.

The lawmaker used the opportunity to appeal to the state government to prioritise the construction of the Ukwunzu–Obamkpa–Ugboba and Ukwunzu–Idumuogo roads to facilitate transportation of agricultural produce.

Odu further stressed that remaining in the opposition would not serve the people well, and aligning with the ruling party at the national level would enhance democratic dividends at the grassroots. “We have taken this decision to improve the lives of rural dwellers,” he added.

Addressing journalists, the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Raphael Uzor, reaffirmed the lawmakers’ belief in their leaders and their willingness to comply with their directives. He reiterated the council’s vote of confidence on  the three leaders, noting their alignment with the MORE Agenda and the Renewed Hope Initiative. Uzor affirmed that the defection to the APC was a people-focused decision, affirming that “We are ready to go wherever our leader decides. At present, there is no PDP in Aniocha North.”
