UVWIE-born Chairman of Nigerian Legion, Delta State Chapter, Chief Roberts Ekemejewa Akpojovwo has lamented the non-recognition of Nigerian Legion by most chairmen of local government areasin Delta State.
The respected Uvwie chief spoke after his election as chairman of Nigerian Legion, Delta State Chapter at his residence in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
He called on local government chairmen in the state to build a befitting monument of the the Unknown Soldier in their areas, adding that the emblem of the unknown soldier should be worn by all Nigerians in honour of those who sacrificed their lives for the unity of Nigeria.
He was full of praises for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for their proper celebration of Armed Forces Remembrance Day annually.
“I call on the local government chairmen to emulate President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori since they are the patrons of the legion in their respective local government areas.’’
Akpojovwo, who until his election, was the Chairman of Nigerian Legion, Uvwie Local Government Area Chapter, had earlier vowed to improve on the lives of members of the group in Delta State and to also take the legion to greater heights “to the benefit of wives and children of our departed colleagues who sacrificed their lives for the unity of our dear country, Nigeria and to all legionnaires some of whom are too fragile to earn a living for themselves owing to old age I promise to take the legion to enviable heights.’’
Akpojovwo, who is also the incumbent 1st Vice National Vice President of Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU), used the opportunity to appreciate members of the legion for voting him overwhelmingly as their chairman.
