THE people of Kokori Community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State have drawn the attention of the state government to the abandoned two kilometres Samaigidi-Ediagbon road project by the contractor handling the job.
This decision followed concerted efforts by the community to prevail on the contractor to execute the job after being mobilised by the state government but failed to return to site.
The project for the construction of the Samaigidi-Ediagbon road; a rural road with the objective of enabling farmers to evacuate agricultural produce from the farms to nearby towns. brought a huge relief to residents of the area, but their excitement however, turned to disappointment after the contractor failed to execute the job.
A former Executive Assistant to the immediate past Governor of the State, Chief Sosorobia Enakerakpo, while speaking on the development, said that the non- completion of the road project has brought suffering and frustration despite the release of adequate funds by the government to see to the completion of the road project.
Chief Enakerakpo disclosed that the situation has become helpless as the contractor handling the project was nowhere to be found, making people of the area to apportion all sorts of blame on him, alleging that he has connived with the construction company, Feghoboze Ltd to divert the monies meant to carry out the project.
Chief Enakerakpo appealed to the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene by using the instrument of government to order the contractor back to site in order to complete the road project to ease the sufferings of residents, especially farmers.
Other residents of the area. who spoke disclosed that the road project was not executed according to specification, alleging that they also failed to pay adequate compensation to families whose properties were destroyed as a result of the planned construction of the road.
They appealed to the governor to investigate the cause of the delay on the part of the contracting firm handling the project to complete the project.
