Ika Peoples Congress Honour Illustrious Indigenes At Award / Gala Night

THE Ika Peoples Congress (IPC)  recently organized   an Award and a Gala Night to honour various Ika indigenes who have distinguished themselves in their various endearvours and in their  contribution  to the development of Ika nation.

The colourful ceremony which  was organised at the Palm Event Centre in   Boji Boji Owa , Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, was  aimed at celebrating their  excellence, selfless service, and outstanding contributions to societal development.

The  award night drew   prominent  Ika indigenes , political leaders, professionals, traditional rulers,  academia’s , distinguished sons and daughters of Ika nation from  various walks of life .

It also provided a platform for social interaction, cultural expression, and renewed commitment to unity among the Ika people.

In his address  the Chairman of  Ika Peoples Congress (IPC)  Mr. Williams Lince Eghebi, described the event as both a moment of reflection and celebration of achievers.

He noted that the awards were in recognition of the good deeds and positive impacts of distinguished personalities such as the Obi of Umunede His Royal Majesty Dr. EzeaguEzewali1 , Chief John Ehikwe, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, General  LEO Irabor, Professor Stella Chiemeke, Dr. Emmanuel, Barrister Ebie, Barrister Uzum, Madam Roseline, Dr. Ibegulem, and among others whom  he said ,  have in different capacities, contributed to the growth, and the development of Ika land.

He emphasized that  the gala night aspect of the  event was designed to foster unity, friendship, and mutual understanding  among Ika people.

The IPC Chairman further used  the medium to encouraged well-meaning Ika indigenes at home and in the diaspora to embrace philanthropy as a culture, stressing that collective progress can only be achieved when individuals give back to their communities.

According to him, the Ika Peoples Congress remains committed to promoting peace, development, and a shared identity that transcends political, religious, and social differences within Ika nation.

The even featured  high profile personalities including Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa  who is also  the Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony , Professor Emmanuel Tibi served as the Chairman of the Occasion. Others  notable personalities  includes;  Rt. Hon. Victor Nwokolo, Hon. Festus Okoh, Hon. Barr. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, Hon. Sunny Tatabizogwu, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Hon. Monday Odigwe, and Hon. Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior leadership underscored the significance of the occasion and the collective respect for the ideals promoted by the Ika Peoples Congress.

Beyond the awards, the programme highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Ika people, who are known for their strong communal values, respect for elders, and deep sense of kinship. The Ika people, predominantly found in Delta State, are culturally vibrant and historically rooted in traditions that emphasize unity, hard work, hospitality, and mutual support. These values, speakers noted, have sustained the people through generations and continue to guide social relations and leadership structures within Ika land.

Traditional music, dances, and cultural displays showcased at the event reflected the identity and pride of the Ika people. Performers adorned in traditional attire thrilled guests with displays that symbolized unity, bravery, and communal harmony. Such cultural expressions, according to organizers, serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving indigenous heritage while embracing modern development.

The Ika Peoples Congress was commended for providing a non-partisan platform that brings people together for dialogue, celebration, and collective progress.
