Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Project Monitoring, Mr Onyinye Joseph, has distributed food items to vulnerable women across Abavo Kingdom as part of his annual Christmas outreach.
The exercise, which took place in Ekwueze community, Ward 10, Abavo, saw the distribution of 230 bags of 10kg rice and six yards of wrapper each to 200 women drawn from the three federal wards that make up the kingdom.
Beneficiaries were selected from the 16 communities and over 48 quarters within the Abavo Kingdom.
Speaking at the event, Mr Joseph said the outreach was aimed at supporting vulnerable members of society and sharing in the joy of the Christmas season. He described giving to the less privileged as a moral responsibility and a way of positively impacting lives at the grassroots.
He noted that the initiative, which has become an annual tradition, reflects his belief in service to humanity and his commitment to remaining connected to his people.
According to him, leadership finds its true meaning in compassion and service, especially to those most in need.
Mr Joseph also paid tribute to the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, whom he described as a leader whose tenure was marked by compassion and people-oriented governance. He said the values of empathy and service demonstrated by Sen Okowa continue to inspire acts of generosity beyond public office.
Residents and community leaders commended Mr Joseph for his consistency and commitment to the welfare of the people, describing the gesture as timely and impactful, particularly in the spirit of the festive season. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, offering prayers and goodwill to Mr Joseph, while describing the outreach as a reminder that leadership can be responsive, compassionate, and close to the grassroots.
