The Delta State Government has unveiled plans to rejig its Staff Training Centre into a world-class facility to enhance manpower development for both government and other establishments.
This was disclosed by the Head of Service, Dr (Mrs) Mininim Oseji, at the closing ceremony of the seven-weekend management training course for senior management staff of the state civil service.
In her address, Dr Oseji charged the officers to ensure that the government’s developmental initiatives translated into concrete benefits for the citizenry, adding that they should bring their learning to bear in their job performance.
‘’We have initiated plans to upgrade the staff training centre to become the Nigerian version of the Singapore Civil Service College by providing courses for senior management staff in both public and private establishments, establishment of an ICT Hub, collaboration with external training firms, provision of state-of-the-art training equipment, as well as beautification of the centre’s premises,’’ she said.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Dr Oseji said, ‘’We have our staff training centre, just like the Federal Government has in the six geopolitical zones. When we came on board, we discovered that they were restricted to middle management.
‘’Meanwhile, from my interaction with them, we have the capacity to train senior management. Again, we get a lot of proposals from external firms requesting training in the same things that they already have the skills to do.
‘’So, we looked at it and decided to do a bit of restructuring. With that, all we needed to do was to put some administrative changes and also give a facelift to the place’’ Dr Oseji said, adding that efforts have commenced with the available resources.
‘’But when you talk about infrastructural upgrades like renovations, we will need funding directly allocated from the capital budget for the Office of the Head of Service. So, we are looking forward to getting that done in 2026’’ the Head of Service said.
Remarking during the event, the Director-General of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Mrs Funke Adepoju, represented by Dr Abiola Ayieola, commended the participants for their commitment and comportment throughout the exercise.
‘’The training is a testament to the longstanding and productive partnership between ASCON and the Delta State Government.
The College values this collaboration deeply because it reflects the shared belief in the power of continuous capacity development to enhance public sector performance’’ she said.
On behalf of the other participants, the class governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Osunde gave a comprehensive report of their experience, even as he expressed their pledge to justify the government’s investment in training them.
