…Calls for ‘Sowing the Needed Seed’ Resonate
BY SAM DUVWODE
THE 2025 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at the Delta State Government House Chapel on Tuesday unfolded in a deeply spiritual and dignified atmosphere, as the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and top government officials took turns reading scripture passages that reinforced the central themes of hope, obedience, sacrifice, and divine promise.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, opened the ceremony with the First
Lesson drawn from Genesis 22:15–17, chronicling God’s covenant of blessing to Abraham for his unwavering obedience.
The reading aligned perfectly with the core message delivered by the Chaplain, Venerable Charles Osemenam, on the power and necessity of sowing the needed seeds.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, followed with the Second Lesson from Isaiah 9:2–7, a prophetic affirmation of the coming of Christ—the “Wonderful Counsellor” and “Prince of Peace”, setting a reverent tone for the season’s celebration of divine light.
In his sermon, titled “The Need for the Seed”, Chaplain of the Chapel, Venerable Osemenam charged Christians to embrace sacrificial obedience, describing it as the “seed” God often demands to activate blessings and breakthroughs.
He explained that a seed represents the specific act of faith God expects at crucial moments. Drawing from Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac, he emphasized that obedience was not merely symbolic but transformational.
Also drawing inference from the book of Mathew Chapter 1, he further illustrated how Joseph’s acceptance of Mary as wife, despite extraordinary circumstances, became the seed required for the fulfillment of Christ’s birth.
“The seed Joseph had to sow was obedience,” he noted, urging Christians to identify what God required of them.
“When you sow that seed, you will never regret it. There is always something God is asking you to give or to drop in order to lift you out of any troubling situation.”
This year’s carols celebration blended spiritual reflection with vibrant artistic expression. A compelling drama piece illustrated the enduring power of faith, harmonizing with the biblical narratives shared throughout the service.
