THE 14th Ohworode of Olomu kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Albert Akpomudje SAN, has sought the cooperation of the people.
Until his installation, he was the Otota to the late Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, HRM Macaulay Ovagbedia, Uhurhie Osadjere II.
The traditional ruler said “I want to appreciate God almighty for this day and I promise to lead the people faithfully and to be a servant leader.
The Ohworode of Ancient Olomu Kingdom added “No law prevents me as a traditional ruler from going to court.
“First of all, no law prevents me from going to court as a king and I stand to be corrected but when you look at the position of the Ohworode and if I want people to give that position the respect it deserves, then it may be difficult for me to go to court and practice the way I was doing.
“But I am thinking of going to apply to the Bar Council to give me an exception so that I can appear in court if I want to,in some very high profile cases in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
But so far, no law prevents a traditional ruler who is a lawyer from practicing.”Congratulating the newly installed monarch, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom HRM Monday Obukohwo Whiskey, Udurhie I, JP, said “I want to congratulate the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom on his installation. “I want to thank God Almighty for the success the installation and again, we are thanking God that despite his position, tradition beckoned on him.
“No honour and achievements can be more than this and we the Urhobo traditional rulers where I am the spokes person are happy to say one of our members, a distinguish Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the vice chairman of the Nigeria Benchers Council is our member and it is a privilege. “I congratulate him and the entire Olomu Kingdom like I have always said, except when a constitutional responsibility is given to traditional rulers, you cannot expect the people of his caliber to become a king and answer to everybody without a responsibility.
The Archbishop of Bendel Province, Anglican Communion of Nigeria, Bishop (Dr.) Odiboroghene Cyril Odutemu in an interview also congratulated the Olomu monarch on his ascension to the throne, just as he expressed gratitude to God Almighty for witnessing the colorful event. The cleric assured that greater things would happen during the reign of HRM Akpomudje SAN.
“This is an opportunity not just for him as a person, but for the church and the learned cadre of men in the society to pilot the affairs of the Kingdom. So, it’s a great opportunity.” Bishop Odutemu noted that the HRM Akpomudje SAN is the third Anglican member to be King of the ancient Olomu Kingdom, pointing out God has been gracious to the church and they are not taking it for granted.
