Prioritise Workers’ Welfare, Arinze Tells New ASCSN Leadership In Delta

A former Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Delta State branch, Comrade Mike Arinze, has urged the newly elected leadership of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) in the state to adopt a strategic approach in engaging the state government toward enhancing workers’ welfare.

Comrade Arinze gave the charge shortly after the election of ASCSN, which he commended for its peaceful and transparent conduct, describing it as a reflection of democratic best practices and modern unionism.

Consequently, Comrade Arinze has cheered the newly elected State Chairman of ASCSN, Delta state branch, Comrade Henry Okafor and his executive members.

In a press statement, Comrade Arinze expressed satisfaction with the rancour-free delegates’ conference, as well as the seamless transition of power from the immediate past state chairman of ASCSN, Comrade Martin Bolum, to the newly elected state Chairman, Comrade Okafor.

He particularly thanked all delegates to the election for their peaceful conduct and for upholding the age-long tenets of the union, which centred on loyalty, service and justice.

Comrade Arinze, who is one of the founding fathers of the union, enjoined the new ASCSN State Chairman to always maintain high standards, which the union has been known for, adding that he already has his work cut out for him.

While charging Comrade Okafor to always engage the state government strategically to bring dividends of good governance to workers, Comrade Arinze further enjoined the new state chairman to always make himself accessible for consultation, which, according to him, is the hallmark of effective leadership.

He advised Comrade Okafor that, as the leader of the apex labour union in the core civil service, a lot of expectations are on him from workers. He therefore charged Comrade Okafor to place a premium on advocacy and advancement of workers’ rights and privileges.

Comrade Arinze also commended the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for recently approving transport allowance for Delta State workers, which he said will no doubt enhance productivity in the public service.
