Ehiwarior Pledges Collaboration With Road Safety Corps

BY PAUL EGEDE/ AGBOR

THE Chairman of Ika South Local Government Area, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, has reiterated the need for residents and commuters to obey rules and regulations while plying the roads.

He made the call during the week in his office while playing host to a delegation of the Agbor Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, led by the Commander, J. J. Hambolu.

Ehiwarior said “it is an opportunity for us to explore areas of collaboration and improve road safety in Ika South Local Government Area. It will also afford us the platform to address operational challenges facing the unit command.”

The chairman, while expressing gratitude to the road safety team for their effort and commitment towards safer roads in the area, assured them of his administration’s continued support.

Speaking, J. J. Hambolu, said the visit had become imperative due to the recklessness of some road users who indulge in blatant disregard of safety rules, especially in Agbor metropolis.

“In recent times, there has been reports of road mishaps within the metropolis involving commercial motorcycle riders, that led to loss of lives. These unfortunate incidences would have been avoided with respect for road safety rules.”

He called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders, including the government, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Union of Road Transport Workers and other road users, to ensure that the roads are made safe both for motorists and pedestrians.

He noted that maintaining safety on the roads is a collective responsibility that requires the collaboration of all road users, adding that the unit has put measures in place to ensure an accident-free Yuletide.
