In continuation of its sensitisation and enlightenment programme for local government workers and retirees, the Bureau of Local Government Pensions has visited the Ughelli North Local Government and the Local Government Education Authority (LEA) on Thursday.
Leading the delegation was the Chairman of the Bureau, Mr Benjamin Igo, alongside the Bureau Secretary, Mr Frank Atube, other top officers of the Bureau, the representative of the National Pensions Commission (NPC), Mr Chidi Okafor, and representatives of some the Pension Fund Administrators operating in Delta State.
Receiving the delegation at the local government headquarters in Ughelli, the Vice Chairman of the council, Chief Mrs Meg Atano, said the exercise was important and should be organised regularly to enable workers and retirees know what to do before and after retirement, to enhance timely processing of their entitlements.
She said the initiative was in line with Renewed Hope for More Agenda of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he said has continued to demonstrate keen commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees across the state.
“I am also a retiree. I know my PFA which Trust Fund, and every month, I receive my entitlement as and when due. This is very good and commendable. So, with this exercise, it is important for workers to know what to do before retirement, not after retirement they start running around, not knowing what to do. So, this is a very welcome development.”
Responding, the Secretary of the Bureau, Mr Frank Atube, thanked the local government chairmen in the state and members of JAAC, for their approval and support for the programme.
He especially noted that the Ughelli North Council Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, was one of the very active voices in support of the sensitisation programme at JAAC meetings, and other initiatives of the Bureau towards ensuring the welfare of workers and retirees.
The sensitization team was earlier in Ughelli South on Wednesday after also stopping at Udu local government on Tuesday.
