Popular Nigerian actress and skitmaker, Patience Yisa, better known as Pepe, has revealed how venturing into skitmaking transformed her career and life.
The entertainer, who boasts over 1.4 million followers on Facebook, nearly a million fans on TikTok and Instagram, and about 100,000 YouTube subscribers, said in a recent interview that she owes much of her current success to the fast-growing comedy content industry.
“Nothing really has been happening apart from me trying to diversify. I started as an actress and fell in love with skit making,” Yisa said. “Who doesn’t want to shoot a skit for less than 30 minutes and make money from it? Skitmaking makes faster money than movies. Apart from passion, you also want to make a living. Nobody wants to follow passion and end up broke.”
According to her, the decision to delve into skitmaking was a game-changer. “When I saw an opportunity in skitmaking, I decided to take it up. I’m back into the industry, and I’ve shot two movies back to back. One of them, Lost Blood, is currently enjoying rave reviews on YouTube. From now on, expect to see more from me,” she added.
Yisa described skitmaking as “one of the most lucrative ventures” for entertainers today, highlighting that even top celebrities like Mercy Johnson, Destiny Etiko, and Don Jazzy now embrace it.
“The platform is big enough for everyone,” she explained. “Gone are the days when actors depended on producers or executive producers to succeed. With social media, nobody needs to wait for promotion anymore. YouTube, at the end of the day, is our retirement plan.”
