AS the world marked World Clean Up Day yesterday, Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Jamani Ejiro, has called on Deltans to imbibe the culture of personal hygiene, proper waste management, and community clean-up initiatives.
In a statement, the Commissioner reminded citizens that the global observance, held every third Saturday of September, aims to unite people in cleaning their communities while finding long-term solutions to waste pollution.
Ejiro urged residents to take responsibility for their immediate environments.
“I enjoin all proud Deltans to imbibe the practice of personal hygiene, own your environment, keep your surroundings clean, stop indiscriminate disposal of waste in public drains and public spaces, register with accredited private sector participants (PSPs) in refuse collection and disposal for appropriate management and disposal of waste, mobilize your neighbourhood/community for routine clean-up exercise,” he said.
The Commissioner stressed that collective participation would not only create a healthier environment but also boost the state’s socio-economic development.
“To have a safer, healthier, and sustainable environment for the overall economic and social growth of Delta State in particular and the world at large,” he added.
Ejiro further reminded citizens of the importance of protecting the planet for generations to come.
“Remember! We have only one Earth, let’s keep it clean and safe for our future generations. Keep safe and God bless.”
World Clean Up Day, celebrated globally, continues to emphasise environmental responsibility, waste reduction, and sustainability practices as vital tools in addressing pollution and improving public health.
