Sequel to the inauguration of the Performance Feedback Unit by the Delta State Government , focal persons on Key Performance lndicators (KPIs) from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been trained on KPIs as part of efforts to ensure that MDAs meet their responsibilities effectively.
The training, which followed the inauguration of the Performance Feedback Unit, was to equip the focal persons in the MDAs with the necessary tools to track progress, achieve set goals, and ultimately enhance service delivery to the people of Delta State and it was organized by the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor.
The Feedback Performance Unit Coordinator, Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. New-World Ikpeni, in an interview with journalists during the training held, yesterday, at Government House, Asaba, explained that the workshop was a follow up on the Performance Feedback Unit inaugurated recently by the state government.
According to him, the state governor, during his campaign, promised Deltans that he would give them good roads, healthcare system, water and electricity, adding that the unit was established to facilitate feedback and performance tracking across MDAs in the state.
“This strategic move aims to enable the Governor to monitor progress, identify areas for improvement and ensure that MDAs are meeting their responsibilities effectively,” Mr. Ikpeni added.
He explained that the Feedback Performance Indicator unit will focus on gathering feedback and assessing the performance of various MDAs, including those responsible for infrastructure development, healthcare, and other critical sectors, adding that by doing so, the Governor would be able to make informed decisions, drive progress, and ultimately enhance the lives of Deltans.
While saying that the development underscored the Governor’s commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability, and was expected to have a positive impact on the state’s development trajectory, he charged participants to fully implement all that has been learnt to the benefit of their MDAs and Deltans in general.
“This is a good thing that the state government has done and I urge all participants to key in fully in order to enable the state government to achieve its purpose and to the benefit of all Deltans,” he said.
Earlier, the Public Economist Technical Resource Person, Delta State Government Performance Feedback Mechanism, Prof. Eric Eboh, while highlighting the significance of the training to the MDA’s focal persons, exposed the participants to the nitty gritty of how to formulate KPIs, prepare and write KPI reports and above all, to enable the participants know how performance feedback works.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics (DPRS), Government House and Protocol, Mrs. Tega Olowohunwa, commended the Governor for the initiative, just as she reminded co-participants of the need to work towards the actualization of the MORE Agenda of the governor.
“This training is very key because it is for Deltans to get the benefits of what the MORE Agenda stands for. And it is also for His Excellency himself, being the key driver of this agenda, to get a feedback mechanism. It is for him to see how the MDAs implement the MORE Agenda.
“My advice to all participants is that we should take this training very seriously because it is very important. They say that change begins with the one driving change,” Mrs. Olowohunwa said
The workshop’s highlight was an engaging question-and-answer session, which provided a valuable opportunity for participants to clarify doubts and reinforce their understanding of the training, which also allowed the resource person to gauge the participants’ level of comprehension, ensuring that the training objectives were met and that attendees gained practical knowledge.
