A community leader in Okpanam and Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Augustine Obiekea has lauded St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Okpanam, particularly its parish priest, Rev. Fr. Norbert Uchuno for honouring some deserving members of the Catholic Women Organisation(CWO) of the parish including his wife, Mrs. Stella Obiekea as “Ezinnes” for their unwavering commitment to the growth of the church.
Obiekea, an Engineer, who is the immediate past Chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Ugbolu/Okpanam Ward 9 gave the commendation while speaking with journalists during the 2025 Annual Conference of Catholic Women Organisation held at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Okpanam.
He described the role of women as strategic in virtually all the activities of the church, stressing that statistics had shown to some extent that women were more dedicated to the service of God .
Obiekea, however, urged the awardees to justify the confidence reposed in them by sustaining their service to God and surpass selfless service to humanity.
Also speaking, one of the awardees, Ezinne Mrs. Stella Obiekea thanked the church for finding her worthy of the recognition, adding that she was so delighted to be honoured and privileged to be alive to witness it.
Mrs . Obiekea said that though she had been doing one or two things for the church as a dedicated child of God, noting that she was only doing what was needed to be done for God and never saw the reward coming.
She stated that the gesture as commendable , emphasizing that the reward would spur her to contribute more to humanity and service of God.
The awardee appreciated every individual for identifying with she and her family on the occasion of her installation as Ezinne of the Catholic Church.
