Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, yesterday, disbursed over ₦37 million to 35 families of police officers in Delta State who died in active service.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe and made available to The Pointer.
According to the statement, the IGP was represented at the presentation ceremony in Asaba, the state capital, by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda. ‘’On August 12, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, presented cheques of N37,663,936 to 35 families of deceased officers who died while in active service.
‘’The cheques issued on behalf of the IGP are part of the IGP Family Welfare Scheme and Group Life Assurance.
‘’The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, while presenting the cheques, noted that the nation and the Nigeria police force appreciates the sacrifices made by their loved ones who served in the Nigeria Police Force before their death, and also stated that the welfare of families of both serving and late officers are part of the interest of the IGP, and it’s on his behalf that these cheques were presented to them.
‘’He also appreciated the gesture by the IGP, as the cheques will in no small way act as a boost to the families and also a way of letting them know that, though their loved ones are no more, the Force did not forget their sacrifices. ‘’One of the beneficiaries, Miss Chidinma Paul thanked the IGP for his magnanimity, noting that the money given to them will be used judiciously’’ the statement read.
