Just recently, the Lagos State Police Command arrested an unnamed nurse over the death of a 36-year-old woman simply identified as Abiola for a failed butt–lifting procedure allegedly carried out on the deceased by the nurse.
According to the report, the deceased’s driver reported the matter to the Police, saying that his boss asked him to convey her to a clinic located at Lekki Phase 1 for a Brazilian Butt lift (BBL) injection for buttocks enlargement. On arrival, he said that the owner of the clinic instructed a nurse to inject the now-deceased lady who later became unconscious and started gasping for breath. He said the victim was rescued and rushed to another hospital in Lekki Phase 1 for treatment where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
Reports say that there has been an increasing number of deaths related to butt-enlargement procedures and a lot of complications due to the processes they undergo, and also not going to a good hospital. Yes, it is said that butt enlargement carries the highest risk of all cosmetic surgeries with more complications if not handled very well.
The average cost of buttock enhancement in Nigeria is from N1.5 million upwards and it might cost more depending on the surgeon, location, specification of the patients as well as the facility and place where it will be done.

Due to the high risks and complications involved in buttocks enlargement, some Nigerians have condemned those who are doing it and yet others go for it, not minding the aftereffects.
A hair stylist, Agnes Mbamalu sees nothing wrong with buttocks enlargement because she stated that it boosts women’s confidence and makes them feel more empowered and more attractive.
She said that it is good for women to fit into the fashion trends or the person will be left out and behind, adding “Look at how our women are looking these days compared to before. It may be artificial but it is good”, she said.
“The only thing I find not so good is the high cost of doing it–more than N2 million’’ even as she asked ‘’where will the girls get money to embark on such a procedure “just to belong?”
She pointed out that if buttock enlargement goes wrong, it can manifest in several ways including uneven backsides, lumps, disproportionate contours, scarring and chronic pains.
Some men who spoke on the issue condemned the act of having artificial buttocks, arguing that girls should be careful in whatever artificial things they wear in the name of fashion.
They admitted that some men go for such buttocks but that other men do not like such things as they are not natural, adding that they could collapse at any time or day.
They also pointed out that if one is lucky to have naturally endowed buttocks from birth, then such an individual can take pride in it, adding that it is not decent to go and pay huge money to extract excess fat from one part of your body to another part, which is very risky depends on your health issues. This idea of the fashion craze has taken many ladies to an early grave in the process of doing it.
One of them who did not want his name in print said, ‘’Don’t mind the men. Many of them go for women who have big buttocks. They may condemn it during the day and go for it at night “.
He continued “I think they should ban this buttocks enlargement which makes the women gather excess fats at the back which, in doing so, endangers their lives.”
