BY EBI NIEKETIEN

THE Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Jamani Ejiro has reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting sustainable environmental practices aimed at preserving and restoring the ecosystem.

He made this known during the 2025 World Environment Day celebration, held at the Prof Chike Edozie Secretariat in Asaba.  Represented by the functioning Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Godwin Enone, the Commissioner noted that the state government would continue to advocate for sorting waste at the source and create an enabling environment for stakeholders to explore opportunities in plastic recycling.

He said such ventures could transform plastic waste into valuable commodities for the benefit of Deltans and Nigerians. Jamani also expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for providing the necessary resources for the celebration, describing it as a testament to the administration’s dedication to environmental sustainability under the MORE Agenda.

The Commissioner commended the contributions of various environmental partners and emphasised the government’s openness to further collaborations that would enhance environmental preservation across the state.

Speaking at the event, the state Head of Service, Dr Minimim Oseji highlighted the recurring global theme of “Beating Plastic Pollution”, noting it underscored the urgency for all stakeholders to intensify efforts in combating environmental degradation.

Dr Oseji urged ministry staff and stakeholders to replicate successful waste management initiatives implemented in Oshimili South, Warri South, and Uvwie Local Government Areas across the entire state.
