THE Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Sapele Correspondents Chapel, recently paid a courtesy visit to the newly posted Divisional Police Officer, DPO, for Sapele Division, CSP Johnbull Obioguru.
The visit, which took place at the DPO’s office in Sapele, was aimed at fostering synergy and strengthening collaboration between members of the press and the Nigeria Police Force in the area.
Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, while speaking during the meeting, commended CSP Obioguru for the ongoing renovation works at the divisional headquarters, describing it as a sign of dedication and purposeful leadership.
He noted that the union had received positive reports about the new DPO’s track record and expressed optimism that his posting to Sapele would restore sanity and enhance security in the town.
The chairman further stressed the importance of a cordial relationship between the police and the media, saying such collaboration was necessary for the promotion of peace, transparency, and credible information dissemination.
Responding, CSP Obioguru, who was flanked by some of his subordinates, thanked the journalists for the visit and expressed readiness to work hand in hand with the NUJ to achieve shared goals.
He assured the union of his office’s openness and commitment to a robust working relationship, saying the media remains a critical partner in policing and public enlightenment.
The DPO later conducted the visiting journalists around the station, showing them the scope of the renovation works being undertaken, which he said were geared towards repositioning the division for more effective service delivery.
