Oborevwori: Delivering Pragmatic Projects For Deltans

BY FESTUS AHON

SINCE assuming office as the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has quietly but steadily been redefining leadership by action, transparency and results-driven governance. In nearly two years in office, Oborevwori has moved beyond political rhetoric, choosing, instead, to focus on pragmatic projects that directly impact the daily lives of Deltans.

Working in line with his administration’s MORE agenda — this blueprint has served not only as a campaign manifesto, but also as a working document now yielding tangible results across sectors- he has delivered to expectation.

From infrastructure to education, and healthcare to youth empowerment, the state is witnessing a silent revolution aimed at sustainable long-term impact, rather than short-term gains.

On Friday, Governor Oborevwori defied the heavy rains to embark on projects inspection. He visited both the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges in Warri South Local Government Area and Ayakoromo Bridge in Ughelli South and Burutu local government areas.

In a decisive move to fast-track infrastructural development and fulfill a ( long-standing ) promise to riverine communities, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced early 2027 as the definitive completion date for the Ayakoromo Bridge.

The Governor noted that the critical project had suffered years of uncertainty and delays, but he was committed to ensuring its completion.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of the 612-metre long bridge comprising 18 spans with 24 metres between each span, to the communities of Egbo-Ide and Ayakoromo.

He added that although the contract was awarded before his administration, he ensured the contractor was remobilized to site.

“This project is very dear to me and the people. The contractor has set 2027 as the completion date, but we would be pleased if it is finished earlier,” he said.

“I am confident the contractor will deliver as promised, but I have also directed them to accelerate the pace of work. This bridge is crucial for connecting surrounding villages.”

He added, “As you can see, the people are excited even though they were not informed of my visit. This shows how important the bridge is to the two communities and others in the area.”

Earlier, the Governor had  visited the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project in Warri South Local Government Area.

He remarked that the project would enhance connectivity and create sustainable economic opportunities for both urban and rural dwellers.

“This project is vital to our people because it connects us with those in rural areas and expands opportunities,” he said.

“You saw how happy the people were as we arrived; elders and other villagers came out joyfully. This project is especially important to the Itsekiri nation, which is why I am determined to see it through to completion.

“I was here in September 2024, and I am back again for inspection. I believe that, by early next year, this project will be inaugurated, as it has already been delayed for nearly 19 years.”

“We will no longer tolerate delays beyond project timelines. Under our MORE Agenda, we have committed to doing more for Deltans, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Delta’s transport network is receiving unprecedented attention. The ongoing dualisation of the Ughelli-Asaba Highway, a project that cuts across major towns and local government areas, promises to unlock economic activities and significantly reduce travel time.

Speaking during the inspection of the reconstruction of the Olomoro–Igbide Road in Isoko South Local Government Area, as well as the ongoing work on Sector C2 of the Ughelli–Asaba Expressway, Governor Oborevwori said that the people of the state were pleased with the pace and quality of development projects being implemented by his administration.

He emphasized that the positive feedback from residents was a clear testament to his government’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work being carried out on the Igbide-Olomoro and Ughelli-Asaba Road dualisation.

He noted that the MORE Agenda of his administration’s development blueprint was already yielding tangible results that address the needs and aspirations of Deltans.

Oborevwori said; “I am impressed with the speed and quality of work being delivered. I visited here in March, and the contractors assured me that Sector C1 will be completed by May. From what I am seeing, they are on track. This project will soon be completed.

“We have received a lot of commendations from commuters using this road. It now takes less than two hours to travel from Asaba to Ughelli. This 143-kilometre road is a major achievement, and it’s clear that people are benefiting from it.”

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the happiness of the people was the ultimate measure of success in governance.

“We are all happy because we were elected to serve and deliver meaningful development. When the people are satisfied, that brings me joy.

“From roads to healthcare and education, our projects are making a real difference in people’s lives and that is what governance is all about,” he said.

He added that the positive feedback spans all three senatorial districts, with citizens praising the quality of roads, schools, health facilities, and youth empowerment programmes.

“This tells us we are on the right track, and it motivates us to do even more,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed that his administration would not relent until every part of the state “feels the impact of democracy. “

He assured that numerous projects had been completed across the state in preparation for his administration’s second anniversary.

He also restated his commitment to the prompt payment of contractors and urged them to accelerate their work, reiterating his determination and desire to deliver more democratic dividends in line with his MORE Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Governor Oborevwori may not be the loudest voice in the room, but his results speak volumes. His leadership style—firm, inclusive, and focused—has built bridges across party lines and ethnic divides. He consults widely and implements swiftly, ensuring that projects are not just started but seen to completion.

As the administration gears up for its second year anniversary, Deltans are beginning to believe once more in the possibilities of governance.

Oborevwori’s pragmatic approach grounded in realism, inclusivity, and measurable outcomes is setting a new tone for leadership in Delta State.

With each project inaugurated, each life touched, and each policy implemented, Oborevwori is proving that leadership is not just about promises, but also about performances. In his hands, Delta State will become a model for pragmatic governance in Nigeria.
