NGO Launches  Digital Mentorship Programme For Girls

BY RITA OYIBOKA

As part of its ongoing commemoration of International Women’s Day, a non-profit organisation, Empower Her, Empower the Future has launched a year-long mentoring and digital training programme for Delta State girls.

This initiative builds on the success of a similar workshop held on March 7th, 2025, where over 200 secondary school girls in Warri were impacted with the tools, skills, and inspiration needed to excel in a tech-driven world.

Speaking to The Pointer, the founder of the organisation, Promise Ekeh expressed her motivation for launching the initiative: “This initiative was born out of my desire to give back to my community. Through conversations with young people, I recognised the need for a fundamental shift in mindset.

“On 7 March, we kick-started this movement with a workshop that empowered over 200 secondary school girls with knowledge and confidence. But we are not stopping there. We are taking it a step further with a one-year mentoring and training programme for 30 exceptional girls selected from the workshop.”

According to her, the selected participants will receive hands-on training in leadership, financial literacy, health and wellness, and digital skills, among other areas.

“By the end of the programme, they will collaborate to develop a technology project or product, showcasing their innovation and newly acquired skills.

“To ensure their success, we aim to provide them with laptops and internet access throughout the programme, equipping them with the tools they need to excel,” she added.

She further called on organisations and individuals to support the initiative, urging them to partner in making the vision a reality.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries of the initiative expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the organisation.

The Head Girl of Challenge Academy, Igege Progress, remarked, “This is an opportunity for us, as girls, to become the best versions of ourselves by shaping our mindsets and making the most of this programme.”

Similarly, Head Girl of Iterigbi Secondary School, Warri, Akirede Deborah, shared, “This programme is equipping us with the knowledge and confidence to become more productive members of society.”
