ADAMAWA State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has launched a campaign to vaccinate at least 1.4 million children against poliomyelitis, with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund.
The initiative was unveiled during the 2025 National Immunisation Day event held in Malkohi, Yola South Local Government Area.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Ibrahim Mijinyawa, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of the state’s young citizens.
He stressed that healthcare remains a top priority for his government and called for strong community engagement to ensure the success of the vaccination drive.
Traditional leaders were urged to encourage parents and caregivers to present their children for vaccination. Governor Fintiri described the campaign as critical to eradicating polio in Adamawa, urging stakeholders at all levels to support the effort to secure a polio-free future.
In his remarks, Chief of UNICEF’s Bauchi field office, Dr Nuzhat Rafique highlighted that this could be the final step towards global polio elimination.
She praised the collaboration between UNICEF and the Adamawa State Government and assured parents of the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness.
