…Pray For Delta, Oborevwori
THE wives of Permanent Secretaries in the Delta State civil service, yesterday, began their New Year activities with a thanksgiving service, committing the state government and the year ahead to God.
The thanksgiving Mass, held at Holy Family Catholic Church (Marble Hill Parish), Okpanam, in Oshimili North Local Government Area, was graced by permanent secretaries, both serving and retired, as well as their spouses.
In an interview with The Pointer shortly after the Mass, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Dr Anthony Nwaokolobia described the thanksgiving as an annual ritual that allowed them to thank God for His benevolence.
Dr Nwaokolobia, speaking on behalf of his wife and Chairperson of the group, Mrs Roseline Nwaokolobia, thanked God for the performance of the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he said has continued to deliver the dividends of democracy equitably across the state.
‘’There is every need to thank God. The state government, led by Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has been at work and is doing a lot in terms of uniform transformation of the state. It takes the grace of God for a governor to be able to take the dividends of democracy to all nooks and cranny of the state.
‘’So, we believe as Christians that there is a lot for us and such goodness will also cascade to our wives, children and the entire society. This is why we are here to thank God’’ Dr Nwokolobia said.
Delivering the homily, Rev. Fr. Calistus Nwadialor stressed the need for Christians to live godly lives, commending the wives of permanent secretaries for proclaiming God to the world through their conduct.
According to the cleric, who took his sermon from the book of Isaiah and John’s Gospel, said, ‘’God expects us to be the light that shines for the nation, to shine for others to see and to bear witness as Christians to the risen Christ.’’
In his remarks, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Franklin Odiaka, commended the wives of permanent secretaries for their thoughtfulness in beginning the year with God and for their contributions to the building of the Church.
