THE Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. Peter Uviejitobor, has said that the ministry was committed to promoting and realizing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda for the benefit of Deltans.
Uviejitobor gave the assurance when journalists paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Asaba, noting that the ministry was committed to both economic empowerment and fostering peace in oil-producing communities.
“’Our aim is to continue promoting the MORE Agenda of the governor. Recently, I got some money, which was made possible by the governor. I did not eat it alone. Instead, I used it to empower people in my local government (Udu).
‘’Over 150 persons benefited from the first phase of the programme. I am optimistic that more Deltans will enjoy the dividends of democracy through the governor’s MORE Agenda,” he said.
The commissioner described the Oil and Gas Ministry as a mediating ministry, explaining that it serves as a bridge between oil companies and host communities, helping to maintain peace and resolve disputes.
“Recently, there was a crisis between one company and a host community. We had to invite both parties to the ministry, and we have already held a maiden meeting with another scheduled for next week,” he said.
He further revealed that the ministry has been employing inter-personal, inter-community, and inter-sector dialogues to address grievances, thereby reducing unrest and fostering stability in the oil industry. According to him, the ministry was also working on community orientation programmes to raise security awareness, protect pipelines, curb criminality, and promote peace in order to boost oil production.
