Penultimate week, Ughelli, one of the renowned commercial cities in Delta, was agog with jubilation following the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo (Ughelli) Flyover project in the area by the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori aimed at easing the long-standing traffic congestion at one of the state’s busiest junctions.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, the Governor said the project was a major milestone in his administration’s infrastructure renewal drive which, according to him, aligns with his administration’s agenda of prudent resource allocation, durable road construction and the opening up of urban and rural corridors for inclusive growth.
He noted that Ughelli, a historic commercial and educational hub, has witnessed rapid population growth, placing enormous pressure on its road network, particularly at Otovwodo Junction, on the East–West Road and other major routes.

As an interim measure, the Governor disclosed that his administration constructed alternative routes, including Uduere Street, Okogbe Street, Oru Street, Edo Street and Royal Avenue to
link Agbarha-Otor Road, at a cost of nearly ₦6 billion to ease traffic before the flyover.
The event, no doubt, witnessed a mammoth crowd as residents and indigenes of the community trouped out enmase to welcome the Governor.
At the resumed plenary for the 2026 legislative year, the member representing Ughelli North 2 State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. “Mr. Speaker, this Thank You message has become necessary because, in my Constituency, the Governor has shown us live in terms infrastructural development. We are beginning to lost counts of developmental projects in Ughelli that have either been completed or currently ongoing by this present administration. In all almost all the communities in Ughelli North, there are one or more projects
“The road projects no doubt, would go a long way in easing the hitherto traffic gridlock in the area.
“It would be recalled that few months after his inauguration as Governor of the State, he visited Ughelli to ascertain what could be done to ease the traffic congestion. This he has brought to reality. To say the least, the Governor has shown the people of Ughelli love. The flag off of the over N39 Billion Otovwodo Flyover Bridge is akin to icing on the cake.
“Mr Speaker, I am particular about Ughelli because that is my Constituency, but you would recall that these projects are not limited to Ughelli, but spread across the various local government areas of the State. Here in Asaba for instance, as a member of the House Committee on Urban Renewal, we visited parts of the State capital as part of our Oversight function and, we can tell you that he is already turning Asaba into a Mega city.
“In the light of this, I have the mandate of my people to appreciate the Governor. For those of us who were at the ground breaking ceremony in Ughelli, you would recall that it was like a carnival. From the ground breaking site to the Palace and others, you see the joy on the faces of the people. It was an expression of appreciation to the Governor for his love on us.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Assembly Correspondents shortly after the Plenary, the lawmaker Insisted that, “No doubt, the Governor has shown us love and, to reciprocate that love, we are prepared to ensure that come 2027, Ughelli local government, both the young and the elderly have resolved to give him our votes massively: we will deliver massively for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“For the Governorship, there is no opposition in Ughelli, it is Sheriff Oborevwori all the way. All we need at this time is to intensify our prayers for the Governor.
