Translate Rights Document Into Local Languages, Asaba Monarch Tasks NOA

THE Asagba of Asaba, HRM Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge, has tasked the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to translate the document on fundamental human rights into local languages to enhance grassroots sensitization.

The monarch, who gave the charge when the Delta State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mrs Tracy Ikolomi, led her team to pay him an advocacy visit, asked the body to speak to the people in the language they will understand.

The traditional ruler, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, expressed his preparedness to partner with the NOA in sensitizing Asaba indigenes and residents on morals and national values.

HRM Obi Azinge said awareness of basic rights was key in a democratic setting, and that it would help in bringing about a better society.

”You can create awareness on the fundamental human rights by simplifying the document. In Delta, you should translate it into some of the major ethnic languages: Igbo, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Isoko, Ijaw. That is the challenge before you.

The Asagba called for more sensitization on the various reforms of the administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying that a lot is being done but there is not much awareness on the policies and programmes of the government, particularly at the grassroots.

Earlier, the Ikolomi said the visit was to solicit the support and the monarch in the dissemination of NOA messages on the National Value Charter, the pathway to National cohesion, development and unity programme, as well as policies and programmes of government to the people.

”As part of the Agency’s activities to inform and educate the citizens, NOA recognizes the urgent need to tackle the issues faced by different zones and states in Nigeria by tailoring the campaign to the roles of our traditional institutions to bring the message of the new identity project, and also by the pressing need to address the myriad of security challenges facing Nigeria which aimed at creating an environment conducive to national development.

”We intend to engage communities in dialogue and promoting understanding and enlighten communities on the need for conflict resolution, create awareness on progresses and unity among Nigeria, transcending ethnic, religious and regional divides.”

”This program targets the root causes of those conflicts, promoting social cohesion, peace and development.”
