… As Unknown Gunmen Kill Middle-Aged Man In Ibusa

Tragedy struck in Okpanam Community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, as suspected Fulani herdsmen reportedly killed a member of the local vigilante group while he was attempting to rescue a kidnap victim.

This heart-breaking incident was made public by the Youth President of Okpanam Community, Hon. Lucky Anthony Okolo through a video he shared on his official Facebook page, yesterday.

According to Hon Okolo “An Okpanam Community vigilante operative was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in his attempt to rescue a kidnap victim, he was killed on his way trying to rescue an innocent soul”

The video showed a young man wrapped in leaves, being carried into a police van to the mortuary. His identity was not immediately disclosed at the time of this report.

The incident has stirred outrage among residents, with many calling for swift government action by concerned authorities.

Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, for a comment on the incident were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report, yesterday.

In a related development, a middle-aged man was yesterday shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to eyewitness, the victim was killed in the afternoon along the Umueze farm road in Ibusa. However, the identity of the victim was unknown as at the time of filing in this report yesterday.

When newsmen visited the scene of crime, the lifeless body of the young man was seen with bullet wounds.

An eye witnesses told newsmen that the gunmen were suspected to be kidnappers.

He said the young man saw them trailing him and in an attempt to escape from the suspects who were carrying high profile guns, he was shot from behind and died on the spot with his face facing the sky.

Efforts to reach Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, yesterday proved abortive as calls to his phone were not answered.
