The member representing Aniocha South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. (Dr.) Isaac Anwuzia, has brought before the House, a matter of urgent public importance, following reports of a deepening rift between the Governing Council and management of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (DSPG).
Subsequently, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, in a swift reaction, said a seven-man ad-hoc committee is to be led by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, to investigate the crisis and report back to the House on October 28, 2025.
The setting up of the ad-hoc committee followed the adoption of the motion to investigate the lingering crisis rocking the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
Anwuzia in the motion expressed concerns over what he described as an “unhealthy working relationship” between the Governing Council and the management of the polytechnic, warning that the development was already affecting the smooth administration and public image of the institution.
According to the lawmaker, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Peace and Security, the disagreements rooted in administrative and financial issues have escalated into a serious institutional crisis, posing a threat to the rising profile of the polytechnic.
Anwuzia explained that the motion seeks to restore peace and ensure accountability within the institution, and drew the attention of members to the importance of maintaining stability in tertiary education in the state. The motion read: “Mr. Speaker, my name is Hon. (Chief) Anwuzia Isaac Ozo Ph.D, Member representing the good people of Aniocha South State Constituency. “Mr. Speaker, I rise this morning to bring to the attention of this Honourable House, the unhealthy working relationship between the Governing Council and the management of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.
“Mr. Speaker, this crisis between the Governing Council and the management of the polytechnic is beginning to take a toll on the smooth administration of the polytechnic.
“I therefore move that this Honourable House investigate the general affairs of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku from 2023 till date following the deepening conflict between the Rector and the Governing Council of the polytechnic, stemming from administrative and financial disagreements that has escalated into serious institutional crisis that currently threatens the rising profile of the polytechnic, so as to bring the conflict to an end”, Anwuzia said.
