BY RITA OYIBOKA

The Delta State Police Command has scored major operational wins in its ongoing clampdown on crime, arresting 12 suspects and recovering a cache of firearms, ammunition, and illicit drugs in two separate intelligence-driven operations across the state.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, the Command detailed the two high-profile operations:

“On January 22, 2026, at about 1610 hours, our Buffalo Patrol Team intercepted a green Toyota Sienna at the Head Bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta States. The occupants, who were dressed in mufti, claimed they were in Delta to welcome a visiting religious leader. However, a search revealed three pump-action guns, a locally fabricated dane gun, a battle axe, and twenty-six live cartridges,” SP Bright stated.

The six suspects arrested in the operation are: Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic (62), Agbata Mathew (35), Osita Chineye (39), Favour Peterson (23), Prince Tochukwu (32), and Clement Nwakwa (51). They are currently in custody as investigations continue.

In a related crackdown on organised crime, “On January 20, 2026, operatives of the Ugborikoko Division, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected drug syndicate. One initial arrest led to the identification and detention of six additional suspects. Searches of their residences uncovered a significant cache of narcotics and paraphernalia, including Indian hemp, Canadian loud, Kolorado, Swinol, Tramadol tablets, and drug processing equipment,” SP Bright added.

The seven suspects from this operation are: Daniel Ojukwu, Rose Otofi, Osaro Okosu, Maro Ibecham, Fregene Victory, and Kevwe Irimoni. Investigations are ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing.

“We remain resolute in dismantling criminal networks and will continue to deploy strategic operations to safeguard lives and property. Residents are urged to support the Police with timely and credible information, which will be treated with strict confidentiality,” CP Adesola said.

SP Bright further assured Delta residents that the Command will sustain its vigilance in combating crime, underscoring the Police’s zero-tolerance stance against armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and drug-related activities.
