Police Arraigns Man For N55m Fraud In Asaba

THE Delta State Police Command has ar­raigned one Chukwuma Ijeh for allegedly obtaining money under false pretence in Asaba, the state capital. He is currently facing 10 charges before the Asaba Magistrates’ Court.

The charge sheet No. CMA/329c/2025 states that “You, Chukwuma Ijeh and others, February 9, 2024 at the Asaba Magisterial Dis­trict, did conspire among yourselves to commit a fel­ony, to wit: obtaining money under false pretence, and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516A(1) of the Criminal Code Cap C21 Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.”

According to number two of the charges, “You, Chuk­wuma Ijeh and others, on the same date and at the same place, did fraudulently obtain the sum of ₦8,000,000 from Chief Ikechukwu Ogbuenyi under the pretence of sell­ing him genuine land, which ownership you knew to be false, thereby committing an offence punishable under sec­tion 419 of the Criminal Code Cap C21 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.”

Count three states: “That you, Chukwuma Ijeh and oth­ers, from the 9th to 11th day of February 2024, did offer for sale a parcel of land mea­suring approximately 50ft by 130ft, situated at Obi-Ugbe Family Land Phase 2, behind Immigration Office, Asaba/ Ibusa Express Road, Asaba, in Oshimili South Local Gov­ernment Area of Delta State, knowing you had no lawful title to the land, and thereby committed an offence punish­able under section 11(1)(a) (b) of the Delta State Public and Private Properties Pro­tection Law of 2018.”

Count four reads: “You, Chukwuma Ijeh and others, on February 11, 2024, did conspire to obtain money under false pretence, there­by committing an offence punishable under section 516A(1) of the Criminal Code Cap C21 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.”

Count five states: “You, Chukwuma Ijeh and others at large, on the same date and place, did fraudulently obtain the sum of ₦520,000 from Chief Ikechukwu Ogbuenyi under the pretence of giving him a development levy re­ceipt for genuine land, which ownership you knew to be false, thereby committing an offence punishable under sec­tion 419 of the Criminal Code Cap C21 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.”

Count six alleges: “You, Chukwuma Ijeh and others at large, on or before the 11th day of February 2024, did demand a levy in respect of construction activities on a site belonging to Chief Ike­chukwu Ogbuenyi, thereby committing an offence pun­ishable under section 13(2) of the Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection Law of 2018.”
