PDP Leaders Hold NEC Meeting Amid Reconciliation Talks

By Emmanuella Oghenetega

The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has conducted an emergency meeting, led by the Tanimu Turaki National Working Committee and the Board of Trustees, chaired by Adolphus Wabara.

The meeting took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The meeting, which is the third of such gathering this week, focused on resolving internal disputes within the party, particularly issues surrounding the planned national convention proposed by the Abdulrahman Mohamed-led caretaker committee.

Party leaders said reconciliation efforts between the rival factions of the PDP have been at the centre of deliberations.

At a similar meeting held on Wednesday, Turaki disclosed that the faction under his leadership remained open to reconciliation and noted that discussions aimed at resolving the crisis were showing encouraging progress.

Meanwhile, the Abdulrahman Mohamed-led caretaker committee, reportedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has also expressed willingness to reconcile.

However, the group insisted that the party’s proposed national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30 must go ahead as part of its conditions for peace.

Among those presiding over the emergency NEC meeting are Turaki, Wabara, former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, and former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana.

In his opening remarks, Turaki informed attendees that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had sent his apologies for not being able to attend the meeting.

He also said the Bauchi State governor was expected to join the session.

Turaki told members that further updates on the reconciliation process would be presented during a closed-door session.

He expressed optimism that the ongoing discussions would help resolve the crisis and stabilise the party ahead of future elections
