No less than 3,000 residents of Ika South Local Government Area, and its environs have benefited from a 4-day free medical outreach, organised by the MDD Square International, in collaboration with the Dr. Isioma Okobah Foundation (DIOF).

The event was at the first Annual Convention of the MDD Square Intl, between October 24 to 27,2024 :held at the MDD Square International Centre, Maryhill, Owanta.

The programme offered a range of activities, including the celebration of Holy Mass, free screenings for malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and eye care, with hundreds receiving free medications and glasses.

Speaking during the programme, the Director of the Lumen Christi Family and MDD Square International, Very Rev. Fr. Mario David Dibie, commended the Dr. Isioma Okobah Foundation and all volunteers, especially those who came from other countries.

The priest attributed the large turnout at the event partly to the effective use of digital technology, such as social media, to publicise the event, which also attracted donations and volunteers globally.

In her remark, the Founder of the DIOF, Dr. Isioma Okobah said, she flew in from the US to attend the programme in order to offer free medical consultations and treat patients, and praised Rev. Fr. Mario, whom she referred to as her spiritual director.

On the success of the event and massive turnouts, she said, the publicity was robust, and attributed the donors’ engagement and partnership to the awareness created, using social media strategies.

She particularly gave kudos to a UK-based technology professional, Andrew Adaigbe, for voluntarily accepting to use his digital technology skills for social media campaigns and management of the Foundation’s activities, and for coming all the way from the United Kingdom without payment.

“Andrew also came in person for real-time updates from the event, using live content management systems, and a dedicated digital strategy that significantly enhanced our engagement”, she observed.

She revealed that the social media campaign involved targeting public-spirited individuals and philanthropists, as well as other NGOs in the United States, such as MAP International, who reached out to them through contacts found on social media and donated medications for the outreach.
