In a grand celebration of service, a novelty football match has been scheduled today in honour of the Director-General of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Festus Ohwojero, who will officially bow out of active service tomorrow.
The event, which will take place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, is scheduled to kick-off at 3:00pm and will serve as a tribute to Mr. Ohwojero’s exceptional 35 years of meritorious service to the Delta State Civil Service.
Appointed as Director-General of the Delta State Sports Commission in 2024, Ohwojero brought renewed vigour and vision to sports administration in the state. His leadership, though brief, was impactful and reaffirmed Delta’s position as a sporting powerhouse in Nigeria.
Colleagues and admirers have described him as a committed administrator whose passion for sports development and public service never waned throughout his illustrious career.
“The novelty match is not just about football. It is our collective way of honouring a man who has devoted over three decades to building systems, empowering youths through sports, and strengthening the civil service,” one of the organisers remarked.
The event is expected to draw top government officials, civil servants, sports enthusiasts, and members of the public who have benefitted from or been inspired by Mr. Ohwojero’s work.
Attendees are encouraged to come out en masse to celebrate a man whose legacy in Delta State’s public and sports administration will not be forgotten.
