Ogwashi-Uku Land Disputes: DTSG Urges Calm, Pledges Swift Action

Delta State, Rt Hon Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has appealed for peace and calm among factions within Ogwashi-Uku communities, Aniocha South Local Government Area, amidst internal land disputes.

The governor’s appeal came yesterday as some Ogwashi-Uku indigenes, led by the President General, Ogwashi-Uku Development Union (ODU), Mr. Patrick Osamor, protested to Government House, Asaba, seeking government’s intervention.

Oborevwori, who spoke through his Senior Political Adviser, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, praised the protesters for their peaceful demeanor, which he said aligned with the administration’s “Enhanced Peace and Security”.

“I commend you for conducting yourselves peacefully. Be rest assured, your grievances will be addressed speedily and resolved amicably,” he said. The governor underscored peace and security as pivotal, promising the administration’s response would resolve the dispute and restore harmony.

Mr. Patrick Osamor, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, cited grievances against the traditional ruler’s alleged involvement in land grabbing, contrary to customary land administration by village chiefs and ‘Diokpa’.

“Land grabbers sell lands without Diokpa consent; they have recruited youths into a cartel for nefarious land deals,” Osamor alleged.
