Oborevwori Urges Corps Members To Reflect Discipline, Patriotism

BY EBI NIEKETIEN

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to let their conduct reflect discipline, patriotism and commitment to nation-building at all times, as they proceed to their places of primary assignment.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Takiriowei, gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku.

According to the governor, the orientation programme goes beyond physical and mental preparation, serving as a foundation for national integration, leadership development and civic responsibility.

He encouraged them to embrace the spirit of selfless service that defined the NYSC scheme and to leave positive footprints in their host communities.

Oborevwori assured the corps members of the state government’s continued commitment to their safety, welfare and productivity, noting that the state would sustain its support for the NYSC through appropriate interventions and resources.

Also speaking, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, said the ceremony marked the successful conclusion of the three-week orientation course, describing it as a transition from preparation to active national service and nation-building.

He noted that beyond physical and intellectual training, the corps members had been equipped with enduring values through lectures on security consciousness, national integration, cultural tolerance, teaching methodology, financial literacy and leadership development, which would enable them to contribute meaningfully at their places of primary assignment.

Kwaghe advised the corps members to integrate into their host communities with humility, respect and cultural sensitivity, and to identify critical needs through Community Development Service (CDS) projects that would leave lasting impact.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his continued support and enabling environment for the effective operation of the NYSC Scheme.

He, however, appealed to the state governor for support in furnishing a newly constructed 720-bed male hostel, provision of a new generator to complement the existing one, and an additional borehole to improve water supply at the camp.
